# Mesa Biotech Covid-19 Test Recalled

Mesa Biotech has recalled (Class 1) its Accula SARS-CoV-2 Test because certain lots of the device have an increased risk of giving false positive results due to contamination at the manufacturing facility. False positive results could lead to further exposure of uninfected individuals to Covid-19, according to a recall [notice](https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/medical-device-recalls/mesa-biotech-inc-recalls-certain-accula-sars-cov-2-tests-risk-false-positives-caused-contamination?ref=fdaweb.com), presumably if individuals change their behavior as a result of believing that they have been infected, or if individuals are placed with other infected inpatients and consequently become exposed to the virus.

The polymerase chain reaction test detects the Covid-19 virus in nasal swab samples from patients. It is authorized for use in point of care settings.
