MicroVention Transradial Access Catheter Cleared

Terumo’s MicroVention unit has been granted 510(k) clearance for its SOFIA EX 5F 115 cm intracranial support catheter for transradial access in addition to transfemoral access in neurointervention procedures. The device was designed to allow for “great trackability,” the company says, adding that a large inside lumen provides a fast and effective way for tracking intracranial locations in patients. It is reinforced with a nitinol coil and stainless-steel braid that offers support and kink resistance, it says. Transradial access relies on the radial artery in the wrist as opposed to the femoral artery in the groin for transfemoral access, it adds.
