More FDA Biosimilar Support Needed: Novartis

Agreeing with points made in a Pfizer 8/22 citizen petition, Novartis says FDA needs to do more to promote biosimilars and counter a communication campaign that it says is spreading false information about the products. The company’s comment letter acknowledges steps FDA and HHS have taken to increase the use of biosimilars and interchangeable biologic products, and says that “further FDA and HHS action could do more to incentivize the use of biosimilars while still ensuring access to and development of novel biological products.”

The letter lists potential actions in terms of FDA guidance, regulatory enforcement, and education activities.
