More Repackagers Involved in Valsartan Recall

FDA says it has found that several additional drug repackagers are recalling valsartan-containing products. In its latest product recall update, the agency says it has recall information from three additional repackagers of valsartan-containing products made by Teva and Prinson, labeled as A-S Medication Solutions, AvKARE, and RemedyRepack. They have been added to the recalled products list.

The update also says these additional repackagers are recalling or are expected to recall valsartan-containing products — Bryan Ranch Prepack, H.J. Harkins Company, Lake Erie Medical (Quality Care Products LLC), NuCare Pharmaceuticals, Northwind Pharmaceuticals, and Proficient Rx. Some of the companies may be producing valsartan-containing products that are not covered by the recall, the notice says.

FDA 7/13 announced a recall of certain batches of valsartan tablets because of an impurity, a chemical known as N-nitrosodimethylamine that has been found to increase the occurrence of cancer in animal studies.
