MPM Medical Recalls Contaminated Regenecare Hydrogel Lot

FDA says that MPM Medical, Mesquite, TX, is recalling one lot of Regenecare HA Hydrogel due to contamination with the bacteria Burkholderia cepecia. An agency notice says Regenecare HA Hydrogel is an over-the-counter product containing 2% lidocaine that is used topically for temporary relief of pain and itching associated with minor burns, sunburn, minor cuts, scrapes, insect bites, and minor skin irritations.

The recall follows two customer complaints of visible contamination, the notice says. MPM says it has not received any reports of adverse events related to the recall. The recalled lot was distributed nationwide to wholesalers and healthcare facilities.
