New Home for Drug Safety Labeling Changes

FDA has moved the drug safety labeling changes program from MedWatch in the Office of the Commissioner to the CDER Office of Communications in an effort to speed publication of labeling changes on the Internet. CDER director Janet Woodcock says that MedWatch posted safety labeling changes monthly. Now, she says, the changes will be in a CDER database and will be published as close to the day of the labeling supplement approval as possible. “Prompt access to these vitally important safety data will ultimately benefit patients as this information will be communicated to their healthcare providers in a much more timely manner,” she says. The new CDER database will have safety labeling data from 1/2016 forward; data prior to then will continue to be available on the MedWatch Web site.
