New Indication Sought for AbbVie’s Rinvoq

AbbVie says it has submitted an application to FDA for a new indication for its Rinvoq (upadacitinib) 15 mg once daily to treat adult patients with active ankylosing spondylitis. A company statement says the application is supported by data from a Phase 2/3 study in which Rinvoq demonstrated significant improvements in signs and symptoms in patients with active ankylosing spondylitis.

Rinvoq is described as a selective and reversible JAK inhibitor that is being studied in several immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. It was approved by FDA 8/2019 for adult patients with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis who have had an inadequate response or intolerance to methotrexate.
