New Info Collection on Bio Product Name Suffix

Federal Register notice: FDA is seeking comments on a new information collection for “Proposed Suffix for the Proper Name of a Biological Product.” The collection is related to a final guidance on “Nonproprietary Naming of Biological Products,” which recommends that applicants propose a suffix composed of four lowercase letters to be included in the “proper name.” The proper name is designated by FDA at the time of licensure for biological products submitted under section 351(a) of the Public Health Service Act and for biosimilar products and interchangeable products submitted under section 351(k). The guidance recommends an applicant submit up to 10 proposed suffixes and include any analyses of how the proposed suffixes meet the factors described in the guidance.
