New Web Page on Symbols in Device Labeling

FDA has launched a new medical device Web page, “Use of Symbols in Labeling,” to assist the public in understanding the Use of Symbols in Labeling final rule that became effective 9/2016. The rule permits the use of symbols in device labeling without adjacent explanatory text (typically called “stand-alone symbols”) if certain requirements are met. It is intended to harmonize FDA device labeling requirements, and stipulates that symbols accompanied by adjacent explanatory text are still permitted.
