# Newport Medical Class 1 Recall of HT70 Ventilators

FDA has classified as Class 1 a recall of Newport Medical Instruments’ Newport HT70 and Newport HT70 Plus ventilators due to a software issue that may cause an unexpected shutdown without alarm. The devices are used to provide breathing support for individuals who require mechanical ventilation. An FDA [recall notice](https://www.fda.gov/MedicalDevices/Safety/ListofRecalls/ucm556222.htm?ref=fdaweb.com) says that if the a ventilator shuts down, the patient may not receive enough oxygen and could suffer serious adverse health consequences such as brain damage, or even death.
