# No Imminent Retirement for Woodcock

It appears FDA acting commissioner **Janet Woodcock** will continue to play a senior role at the agency if FDA commissioner nominee **Robert Califf** is confirmed by the Senate. Califf reportedly has asked Woodcock to stay on in the Office of the Commissioner, but it is not clear whether he will tap her for second in command as principal deputy commissioner.

Meanwhile, it is looking more obvious that Califf may be looking at a confirmation hearing in the New Year after the Biden Administration dragged its feet in submitting the necessary paperwork to the Senate to advance his nomination. In that case, Woodcock will likely continue to serve as acting commissioner until Califf is sworn in by the president.
