Novartis Suspends Dosing in Branapalm Trial

Novartis says it is temporarily suspending the dosing of branapalm in the Phase 2b VIBRANT-HD study of the drug in adults with Huntington’s Disease. The decision, which was made by an independent data monitoring committee and supported by the VIBRANT-HD steering committee, was made because early signs of side effects were seen in some trial participants, a Novartis statement says.

The company says a regularly planned data review suggested that branapalm might be causing peripheral neuropathy, which results from injury to the nerves located outside the brain and spinal cord.

Novartis says the study is moving forward with planned assessments and the company will be gathering more data and information in the coming months and deciding on its next steps.
