‘Objectionable Conditions’ at LSU Institutional Review Board

A 7/17-7/26/2023 FDA inspection at the Louisiana State University Health Science Center institutional review board (IRB), New Orleans, LA, conducted as part of the agency’s Bioresearch Monitoring Program, determined that the IRB “did not adhere to applicable statutory requirements….” A 9/27 Warning Letter emphasizes the IRB failed:

to conduct continuing review of research at intervals of not less than once per year;
to prepare, maintain, and follow required written procedures for ensuring prompt reporting to the IRB, appropriate institutional officials, and FDA.

The IRB was told to respond with a list of specific actions it has taken or will take to address any violations and prevent their recurrence.
