# Office of Regulatory Affairs, Other Changes Approved

FDA says its proposed reorganization involving changes in the functioning of the Office of Regulatory Affairs, with a new model for field operations, the creation of a unified Human Foods Program, and other efforts has been approved. An agency [notice](https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fdas-reorganization-approved-establishing-unified-human-foods-program-new-model-field-operations-and?ref=fdaweb.com) says implementation of the reorganization is targeted for 10/1.

“The reorganization will enable FDA to be more efficient, nimble, and prepared for the ever-changing and complex industries we regulate, new food and medical product technologies, as well as the impact of globalization, climate change, and other factors that require the agency to quickly adapt,” the notice says.

The statement says the restructuring of the Office of Regulatory Affairs will enable the agency’s field operations unit to focus on inspections, investigations, and imports as its core mission. As part of the reorganization, the name of the Office of Regulatory Affairs will be changed to the Office of Inspections and Investigations to better convey its frontline role.

The reorganization establishes a Human Foods Program by realigning the functions of the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, the Office of Food Policy and Response, and key functions from the Office of Regulatory Affairs under one program, FDA says.

The notice expresses FDA’s gratitude for the support and guidance provided by Congress, HHS, the Office of Management and Budget, and others in the external review chain.
