# Ohio Sues Opioid Makers for Fraudulent Marketing

Ohio attorney general **Mike DeWine** has filed a state law [suit](http://www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov/Media/News-Releases/May-2017/Attorney-General-DeWine-Files-Lawsuit-Against-Opio?ref=fdaweb.com) against five leading prescription opioid manufacturers and their related companies in a county common pleas court in an area of the state that he says was likely the hardest hit place in the country for the opioid epidemic. The suit charges the companies — Purdue Pharma, Endo Health Solutions, Teva and its Cephalon subsidiary, Johnson & Johnson and its Janssen subsidiary, and Allergan — engaged in fraudulent marketing of the drugs’ risks and benefits, fueling the state’s opioid epidemic.

“These drug manufacturers led prescribers to believe that opioids were not addictive, that addiction was an easy thing to overcome, or that addiction could actually be treated by taking even more opioids,” DeWine said. “They knew they were wrong, but they did it anyway, and they continue to do it. Despite all evidence to the contrary about the addictive nature of these pain medications, they are doing precious little to take responsibility for their actions and to tell the public the truth.”
