OIG Updates Work on 8 FDA Studies

The Mid-Year Update for the 2016 HHS Inspection General (OIG) work plan includes two new FDA studies — one to review prescription drug user fees and one to review networked medical device cybersecurity during the device approval process. Both study reports are expected to be issued in FY 2017.

The update also lists five FDA studies that have been underway and were in the original FY 2016 work plan: controls over networked medical devices at hospitals, oversight of postmarketing studies of approved drugs, review of information exchange in the drug supply chain, tobacco establishment compliance with the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, monitoring of domestic and imported food recalls, and inspection of high-risk food facilities.
