OPDP to Study TV Ad Endorsers
The CDER Office of Prescription Drug Promotion (OPDP) is taking comments on a proposal to study endorser status and actual use of a drug product in TV direct-to-consumer (DTC) ads. A Federal Register notice says the proposal would extend an OPDP study currently underway that is looking at print and Internet settings, to include TV ads.
“Prior research has shown that endorsements by expert physicians and pharmacists were the most likely to lead to purchase intentions,” the notice says, “followed by endorsements by consumers, and lastly, by celebrities.”
The proposed study would examine the influence of endorser types (patient, physician) and actual-use disclosure (utilizer, actor, none) in TV ads.
