FDA has granted orphan drug designation for Faron Pharmaceuticals’ lead candidate bexmarilimab to treat myelodysplastic syndrome. A company [announcement](https://faron.com/releases-and-publications/inside-information-fda-grants-orphan-drug-designation-for-bexmarilimab-in-mds/?ref=fdaweb.com) says bexmarilimab is an investigational immunotherapy designed to overcome resistance to existing treatments and optimize clinical outcomes by targeting myeloid cell function and igniting the immune system. It is said to bind to Clever-1, an immunosuppressive receptor found on macrophages leading to tumor growth and metastases.
