Orphan Status for Project ALS Drug
FDA has granted Project ALS an orphan drug designation for prosetin and its use in treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The organization describes prosetin as an oral, brain penetrant MAP4 kinase inhibitor developed by scientists at Columbia University. Project ALS says it funded prosetin’s preclinical development and is sponsoring its “translational” and potential clinical development. Over the past twenty years, Project ALS has overseen research collaborations among 25 institutions leading to the discovery of over 60 ALS genes, the development of the world’s first patient-based models of ALS, and now the acceleration of ALS drug testing and clinical trials.
