Oticon PMA Approved for Cochlear Implant

FDA has approved an Oticon Medical PMA for the company’s Neuro System to treat individuals 18 years or older with bilateral severe-to-profound sensorineural hearing loss, who obtain limited benefit from appropriately fitted hearing aids. The device is the first cochlear implant system to be approved in more than 20 years, according to the company. The implant is designed to require a minimally invasive surgical procedure to reduce the time needed for surgery and to minimize complications associated with healing, the company says, adding that its Neuro 2 sound processor is the smallest behind-the-ear processor on the market.
