# Over 290 OCI Arrests in FY 2023: FDA

The more than 200 special agents working in the field for the FDA Office of Criminal Investigations (OCI) executed more than 290 arrests and achieved over 300 convictions in FY 2023\. Writing in an *FDA Voices* [post](https://www.fda.gov/news-events/fda-voices/upholding-public-trust-fda-office-criminal-investigations-crucial-role-bringing-drug-criminals?ref=fdaweb.com), assistant commissioner **Justin Green**, who heads OCI, says the group’s work “sends a strong message that those who criminally endanger the public health will be pursued with the full force of the law and will be held accountable for their actions.”

Green notes that OCI investigators have been conducting and coordinating criminal investigations of suspected illegal activities involving FDA-regulated products for over 30 years.

“Whether it’s circumventing the FDA regulatory process; distributing counterfeit or misbranded prescription drugs or other FDA-regulated medical products; engaging in illegal diversion of prescription drugs; selling fraudulent products with claims to prevent, treat, or cure diseases; or jeopardizing patient safety, OCI works closely with jurisdictional and regulatory partners to investigate crimes and protect public health,” Green writes.
