Overject AI Technology for Dental Caries Cleared

FDA has cleared an Overjet 510(k) to expand the use of its artificial intelligence (AI) technology for predicting tooth decay in younger patients. The clearance covers the use of Overjet’s AI models for detecting and outlining caries (cavities) on periapical and bitewing radiographs for patients aged 12 years and older who have permanent teeth, according to the company. The clearance is based on data from a study that found dentists using Overjet missed 43% fewer teeth with caries on bitewing images and 45.8% fewer teeth with caries on periapical images than they did without the AI technology.
