# Panel Backs Moderna Covid Vaccine in Children

An FDA advisory committee 6/14 voted unanimously (22 to 0) to recommend the agency grant Moderna an emergency use authorization for its Covid-19 vaccine in children aged six months to 17 years. An [FDA briefing document ](https://www.fda.gov/media/159189/download?ref=fdaweb.com)showed that vaccine efficacy was 93.3% for participants 12-17 years of age, 36.8% vaccine efficacy in trial participants aged two to five years, and 50.6% effective in children aged six to 23 months.

On the safety side, FDA said that in children six months through 11 years of age adverse reactions were “generally lower compared to those observed in adolescents and in previous clinical trials with young adults, with the exception of fever which was reported more frequently in the younger age groups compared to adolescents and adults.”

On 6/15, the panel will review a Pfizer-BioNTech request for their Covid-19 vaccine and its use in children aged six years and younger.
