# Panel Backs Pfizer, Moderna Covid Vaccines in Young Kids

FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee unanimously voted 6/15 to recommend the agency expand the Covid-19 vaccine emergency use authorizations (EUA) for Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna to allow their use in children as young as six months of age. Panel members concluded that the Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA vaccine is safe and effective to be used in the administration of a primary series to infants and children six months through four 4 years of age. The vaccine is currently authorized for use in older children. For the Moderna vaccine, the panel members recommended that FDA amend the EUA to include the administration of a primary series to infants and children six months through five years of age.

FDA is expected to make a final EUA decision before the end of the week, but before parents can begin taking their young ones in for a vaccination, a CDC panel must sign off on the immunization schedules. The White House has said this should all be complete by 6/21.
