Panel Split on Minimum Dose for New Naloxone Products

A split vote (15 to 13) by FDA’s Anesthetic and Analgesic Drug Products Advisory Committee and Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee has recommended increasing the minimum dose for injectable and intravenous administration of naloxone for treating overdoses outside of a hospital or medical setting. Panel members said the dose increase for new products would address the variety of opioid overdose incidents that are occurring in communities. Panel member also recommended that the minimum standards used to support approval of naloxone products should not differ between adults and children.
