# Patel’s Goal as Chief Digital Health Officer

CDRH Digital Health Center of Excellence director **Bakul Patel** tells the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation that in his new position as chief digital health officer of global strategy and innovation, he will focus on two key areas: developing a strategy for advancing digital health technology and addressing the FDA strategic priority of advancing health equity using digital health technology. In an online [interview](https://www.aami.org/news/article/bakul-patel-prioritizes-global-strategy-health-equity-in-new-fda-role?ref=fdaweb.com), Patel says the use of the word “global” in his position title “is about how exactly we drive collaboration across different jurisdictions, across different countries, and work on something that is much larger than just looking within the U.S. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done, and lots of collaboration and coalitions need to be built.”

Asked about the accomplishment at the Digital Health Center of Excellence that he is must proud of, Patel credited the team of 22 people that has been assembled. “The team is the core,” he said. “The diversity and expertise that they bring to the table at FDA, and CDRH specifically, is something I am really, really proud of.”
