Patient Engagement Panel Transcript Available

FDA has released a transcript of its 10/22 Patient Engagement Advisory Committee meeting called to discuss and make recommendations on artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) in medical devices. The transcript notes the committee discussed the composition of the datasets on which the software “learns,” components of the device information shared with patients, and factors that affect patient trust in the technology. The recommendations provided by the committee addressed the importance of including various demographic groups in AI/ML algorithm development, FDA says. The recommendations also address the impact of the user interface and transparency including what and how information about the devices could be communicated to foster patient trust in the AI/ML devices.
