Pediatric Drug Development Bill Introduced

Reps. Anna Eshoo (D-CA) and Michael McCaul (R-TX) introduced 12/7 the bipartisan Innovation in Pediatric Drugs Act of 2023 to “ensure drugs for rare diseases are studied in children and drug companies are accountable for completing pediatric study requirements.” A statement from Eshoo says the bill would strengthen her Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act (BCPA) and Pediatric Research Equality Act by:

giving FDA additional authority to penalize companies that don’t complete required pediatric studies on time;
requiring drugs for rare diseases to be studied in children; and
doubling funding for the National Institutes of Health BPCA program to fund additional clinical trials and train additional personnel to help run trials.
