Pfizer Covid Oral Drug 89% Effective

Pfizer says new data on its Covid-19 oral antiviral drug Paxlovid (nirmatrelvir tablets and ritonavir tablets) show the drug significantly reduced the risk of hospitalization or death for any cause by 89% compared to placebo in non-hospitalized, high-risk adult patients with Covid and treated within three days of symptom onset. In a secondary endpoint, it reduced the risk of hospitalization or death for any cause by 88% compared to placebo in patients treated within five days of symptom onset, an increase from the 85% observed in an earlier interim analysis, it says. The data are from the EPIC-HR clinical trial and have been shared with FDA as part of an ongoing rolling submission for an Emergency Use Authorization.
