Pfizer Covid Vaccine Authorized in Kids Aged 5-11

FDA 10/29 authorized the emergency use of Pfizer-BioNTech’s Covid-19 vaccine in children ages five through 11 years. The agency’s decision follows a 10/26 vote by its Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee to recommend the agency authorize the lower-dose vaccine in the patient population.

FDA says data submitted showed that the vaccine was 90.7% effective in preventing Covid-19 in children five through 11 years of age. Safety: “The vaccine's safety was studied in approximately 3,100 children age five through 11 who received the vaccine and no serious side effects have been detected in the ongoing study,” it adds. A CDC panel will next meet to discuss further clinical recommendations.
