# Pfizer Tick-Borne Encephalitis Vaccine BLA

FDA has accepted for priority review a Pfizer BLA for TicoVac, its tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) vaccine for use in individuals one year of age and older. The company says it expects a user fee review action in August.

TBE is a brain/spine viral infection that is transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected tick. To date, infected ticks have been identified in more than 35 countries across Europe and Asia, Pfizer says. “If approved in the U.S., we hope this vaccine will help protect those traveling to or residing temporarily in at-risk locations, potentially including military personnel who are serving overseas,” it adds.

The BLA is based on data from more than 40 years of experience and evidence outside the U.S., according to Pfizer. In clinical studies, pooled seropositivity rates were 99-100% in those aged one to 15 years and 94-99% in adults following three doses, it says.
