# Pharmacogenetic Info Helps Precision Medicine

Researchers from FDA and two universities say that pharmacogenomic information included on drug labels can facilitate a better understanding of pharmacogenomics among researchers, healthcare professionals, and the public, to advance the science of precision medicine. [Writing](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1359644620300490?via%3Dihub&ref=fdaweb.com) in *Drug Discovery Today*, the researchers provide an overview of pharmacogenomic information in 362 drug-biomarker pairs (DBP) from 261 prescription drug labeling documents.

The study profiles DBPs using the frequency of the biomarkers and their therapeutic classes. Four categories of applications (indication, safety, dosing, and information) are discussed according to information in labeling.

FDA advocates pharmacogenomic approaches in drug development, review, and approval, the article says, and the agency has published multiple drug labeling guidances recommending the inclusion of such information in human drug and biological product labeling.
