PharMedium Recalls Compounded Oxytocin

PharMEDium Services has recalled all unexpired lots of oxytocin compounded with lactated ringers and all unexpired lots of oxytocin compounded with lactated ringers and dextrose products that were produced between 7/6 and 8/29. The action is being taken based on laboratory test results indicating a lower than expected potency in certain lots. To date, PharMEDium says it has received four reports of product complaints related to the products. Oxytocin is indicated for initiating or improving uterine contractions, where this is desirable and considered suitable for reasons of fetal or maternal concern, in order to achieve vaginal delivery.
