# Philips Recalls Sense XL Torso MRI Coils

Philips North America is recalling (Class 1) its Sense XL Torso (1.5T and 3.0T) MRI coils to update use instructions due to a potential issue where the coil heats up during MRI scans, possibly leading to thermal injury. “The use of affected product may cause serious adverse health consequences, including serious burns and death,” a recall notice says. To date, the company says there have been 12 reported injuries and no reports of death.

The coils are described as 16-element, receive-only coils and include a back part, a front part, and a connection box. The coils are designed for imaging the torso and abdomen, and they work with 1.5T or 3.0T MR scanners.
