Positive Results for Roche Giredestrant in Some Breast Cancers

Roche says results from the Phase 3 lidERA breast cancer study evaluating its investigational giredestrant as adjuvant endocrine treatment for people with estrogen receptor-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative early-stage breast cancer showed the treatment significantly reduced the risk of invasive disease recurrence or death by 30% compared with standard-of-care endocrine therapy. A Roche announcement says giredestrant is the only selective estrogen receptor degrader to show superior disease-free survival in the adjuvant setting, marking the first significant endocrine therapy advance in over 20 years.

“The transformational results support the potential of giredestrant to become a new standard-of-care for early-stage disease,” the company says.

Roche says giredestrant is designed to block estrogen from binding to the estrogen receptor, triggering degradation and stopping or slowing the growth of cancer cells.
