Positive Results for Setrusumab in Bone Disease

Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical and Mereo BioPharma say there were positive results in the Phase 2 portion of the Phase 2/3 Orbit study of setrusumab in patients with the complex bone and tissue disease osteogenesis imperfecta (OI). A statement from the companies says treatment with setrusumab continued to significantly reduce the incidence of fractures in patients with OI with at least 14 months of follow-up. “Treatment with setrusumab also resulted in ongoing and meaningful improvements in lumbar spine bone mineral density at month 12 without evidence of plateau,” the statement says.

Setrusumab is described as a fully human monoclonal antibody that inhibits sclerostin, a negative regulator of bone formation.
