Price Sworn in as HHS Secretary; FDA Head Named Next?

Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) was sworn in 2/10 as HHS secretary after being confirmed overnight (52 to 47) following a series of grueling Senate hearings. During the hearings, Price came under fire for alleged conflicts of interest (see earlier story) related to stock purchases. Presumably, Price’s nomination should clear the president to nominate his candidate for FDA commissioner, which he promised last week to complete very soon. As HHS secretary, Price will lead the Trump Administration’s efforts to implement a replacement for the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare). Such efforts may not come until 2018, president Trump said recently. He will also guide FDA reform efforts, which is a high priority on the president’s list in order to make medical products available faster to consumers.
