FDA has published a draft guidance, *Acute Radiation Syndrome: Developing Drugs for Prevention and Treatment*, with information and recommendations to assist sponsors and other interested parties in developing drugs to prevent or treat acute radiation syndrome caused by exposure to ionizing radiation from accidental or deliberate events. The [document](https://www.fda.gov/media/167172/download?ref=fdaweb.com) is not intended to address the development of drugs to prevent or treat conditions that are the result of a downstream effect of the acute sequelae of exposure to ionizing radiation or secondary conditions in the setting of acute radiation syndrome. The guidance also does not address the delayed effects of acute radiation exposure, such as radiation-induced lung injury, or decorporation agents.
