Reblozyl Approved for Myelodysplastic Syndromes

FDA has approved a Bristol Myers Squibb and Acceleron Pharma BLA for Reblozyl (luspatercept-aamt), an erythroid maturation agent for treating anemia after failing an erythropoiesis stimulating agent and requiring two or more red blood cell units over eight weeks in adult patients with very low- to intermediate-risk myelodysplastic syndromes with ring sideroblasts or with myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative neoplasm with ring sideroblasts and thrombocytosis. Approval was based on data from the pivotal Phase 3 MEDALIST trial. The therapy was approved 11/2019 for treating anemia in adults with beta thalassemia who require regular transfusions.
