Regulation Order ‘Radical, Unworkable, Dangerous’: Public Citizen

Public Citizen president Robert Weissman says that President Donald Trump’s 1/30 Executive Order requiring agencies to propose two regulations for repeal for every one that they want to issue is “as radical and unworkable as the other ones Trump has signed.” In a statement, Weissman says that the order “will result in immediate and lasting damage to our government’s ability to save lives, protect our environment, police Wall Street, keep consumers safe, and fight discrimination. It will fundamentally change our government’s role from one of protecting the public to protecting corporate profits, and will lead to a dangerous new era of deregulation and corporate ‘self-regulation.’”

Weissman lists a number of areas in which the order’s impact will be quickly felt and concludes that it is “just the next and most arbitrary attack in a litany of attacks against public protections.”
