Reps. Introduce Drug Labeling Bill

Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Ann McLane Kuster (D-NH) have introduced the Updated Drug Labeling for Patient Safety Act to ensure that patients are made aware of all potential risks and side effects of prescription drugs, including generics. In a statement (includes a link to the bill text), Schiff and Kuster say their bill would direct FDA to establish a process to allow generic drug manufacturers to update labeling to include new or updated safety-related information, and issue and implement a final rule with a process for conforming the labeling of branded and generic drugs.

The bill has been endorsed by Public Citizen and the American Association for Justice, the representatives say.
