Republicans Reopen Opioid Manufacturer Probe

Republican leaders of the House Energy and Commerce Committee say they are reopening their 8/2018 inquiry into three opioid manufacturers — Insys, Mallinckrodt, and Purdue — to obtain additional information from the companies. In 2018, the companies were asked to provide information about their actions related to the spread of the opioid epidemic, including: 

•          questions to Insys about an alleged kickback scheme to boost Subsys sales;
•          questions to Mallinckrodt about its efforts to monitor opioid sales for suspicious orders; and
•          questions to Purdue about when it first knew about Oxycontin dangers.

In the latest letters, the lawmakers ask Insys to answer questions it did not answer in 2018, ask Mallinckrodt to send company officials to brief the committee on testimony by a senior company manager faulting the company’s suspicious order monitoring system, and demand that Purdue provide responses to unanswered questions from 2018.
