Safety Alert on Raindrop Near Vision Inlay

A new safety alert warns against an increased risk of corneal haze associated with Optics Medical’s Raindrop Near Vision Inlay. The inlay is a transparent, curved hydrogel disc smaller than the eye of a needle. It was designed to be surgically implanted into the cornea to improve near vision and offer an alternative to eyeglasses or contact lenses in healthy patients. Due to the corneal haze (a type of cloudiness in the cornea due to inflammation) associated with the device, the alert advises that eye care providers not implant Raindrop inlays. FDA is working with Optics Medical to have all remaining product on the market recalled.
