Scynexis Yeast Infection Drug Approved

FDA has approved a Scynexis NDA for Brexafemme (ibrexafungerp) tablets for oral use in patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis (vaginal yeast infection). The company says it is the first approved drug in a novel antifungal class in more than 20 years. Approval was based on data from two Phase 3 studies that showed the drug demonstrated efficacy and a favorable tolerability profile in women with a yeast infection, it says.

Scynexis says ibrexafungerp is contraindicated during pregnancy and in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the drug. Most common adverse reactions observed in clinical trials were diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, and vomiting.
