Seizure Drug Efficacy Extrapolation Guidance

FDA has issued a guidance, Drugs for the Treatment of Partial Onset Seizures: Full Extrapolation of Efficacy from Adults to Pediatric Patients 2 Years of Age and Older, with recommendations to sponsors on clinical development of drugs for treating partial onset seizures in pediatric patients. Specifically, the document addresses the agency’s current thinking about clinical development programs that can support extrapolation of the efficacy of drugs approved for treating partial onset seizures in adults to pediatric patients age two and older. It does not address clinical development programs for treating partial onset seizures in pediatric patients younger than age two. And it does not address development of drugs to treat other types of seizures.
