Senators Introducing Interchangeable Biologics Bill

Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Tim Kaine (D-VA), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), and Rob Portman (R-OH) are introducing the Interchangeable Biologics Clarity Act that they say will strengthen the FDA approval process pipeline and increase transparency for critical medicines, thus lowering costs and increasing availability of key medications. A Collins statement says the bill “would more efficiently usher drugs to the market by making key improvements to FDA’s review process for interchangeable biosimilars…. The legislation would provide FDA with clarity around exclusivity periods for interchangeable biologic products, allowing products that can easily be substituted to treat the same condition to enter the market faster.”
