# Senators Reintroduce RACE for Children Act

A bipartisan group of senators led by **Michael Bennet** (D-CO) and **Marco Rubio** (R-FL) have reintroduced the [RACE for Children Act](https://www.bennet.senate.gov/?p=release&id=3809&ref=fdaweb.com) (Research to Accelerate Cures and Equity for Children Act) to support the development of innovative and promising cancer drugs for children. The bill would amend the Pediatric Research Equity Act (PREA), which requires companies developing drugs for adults to also develop them for children. However, PREA has never applied to cancer because children’s cancers occur in different organs than do adult cancers. The new bill would require PREA-related pediatric studies when a molecular target of an adult cancer drug is relevant to a children’s cancer. It would also end the orphan exemption for PREA studies.
