Shortage of Empty IV Containers

FDA has added empty intravenous containers to the CDRH medical device shortages list and says the shortage is expected to last through 3/2025. An agency notice says after receiving alerts from healthcare providers and group purchasing organizations about potential shortages of empty IV bag containers, which are primarily used by drug compounders, CDRH’s Office of Supply Chain Resilience conducted outreach to assess the constraints.

The notice says the Center is working with manufacturers to identify and implement mitigations to address the shortage.
