# SilveryGuy Selling Unapproved Colloidal Silver: FDA

FDA says a Web site and Facebook page operated by SilveryGuy from Singapore is selling unapproved and misbranded colloidal silver representing or implying that the product can mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure Covid-19 in people. An 8/14 [Warning Letter](https://www.fda.gov/inspections-compliance-enforcement-and-criminal-investigations/warning-letters/silveryguy-609843-08142020?ref=fdaweb.com) gives several of the Web site and social media claims that establish the intended use for the product and misleadingly represent it as safe and effective for treating or preventing Covid-19.

The Web site owner was told to take immediate action to correct the violations and to respond by e-mail within 48 hours with a description of the specific steps taken to correct the violations and prevent their recurrence, with copies of related documentation and a schedule for completion if the actions will require longer than 48 hours.

The letter also says it is a violation of the Federal Trade Commission law to advertise that a product can prevent, treat, or cure human disease unless there is competent and reliable scientific evidence, including clinical studies if appropriate, substantiating the claims that are made. “You must immediately cease making such claims for products that are available for sale in the United States,” it says.
