Alexion Pharmaceuticals has agreed to acquire Wilson Therapeutics and investigational drug WTX101 (bis-choline tetrathiomolybdate) for treating Wilson disease. The first-in-class copper-binding agent with a unique mechanism of action is designed to detoxify excess copper in both liver and blood, and promotes copper clearance through biliary excretion.

Spectrum Plastics Group has acquired Fermatex Vascular Technologies, a supplier of reinforced medical tubing, catheter subassemblies, and specialty extrusions. The acquired facilities will operate under Spectrum Plastics’ specialty technologies platform and work in tandem with its Apollo Medical Extrusion Technologies units and brand.

Avara Pharmaceutical Services has agreed to acquire Novartis’s sterile manufacturing facility for injectable medicines in Canada. Avara recently acquired a sterile facility from Pfizer in Liscate, Italy, and one solid dose manufacturing facility from GlaxoSmithKline in Aiken, SC.
